The dancehalls and clubs of New York City in the 70s would have been mighty saucy places if this 30-song collection of golden age salsa tracks is anything to go by. While the heavy tinpot rhythms, big brassy blasts and squawks, and the suave and slightly cheesy vocals are in full effect, every now and then songs like Fania All Stars' Mama Guela are punctuated by outbursts of beat-freak carry-on.
