Stars: 3/5
This supergroup (of sorts) features Peter Buck of REM - one of his many side projects of recent years - as well as members of 80s alt LA rock band Dream Syndicate and alt-country rockers Golden Smog, and, for this incarnation at least, The Hold Steady's Craig Finn.
Tracks to listen out for include Panda and the Freak (like REM if they were hick and hokey and it has the great line "like if you cross Bruce Lee with a buffalo") and the call-to-arms of Don't Call Them Twinkies. While it's an album about baseball it's also a cracking, straight-up alt-pop album for fans of, well, REM and the slightly dorky indie-rock of the Hold Steady.
