Like fellow Mancunians the Gallagher Brothers, Big Day Out-approved act The 1975 are prone to making outlandish statements.
Matthew Healy, the band's upstart frontman, recently told TimeOut, without a hint of irony: "We're the best new band in the world."
Healy needs to sit down, shut up and focus on making some better tunes.
There's no doubt The 1975 don't sound like any other band around right now - their fusion of alt-rock, electro-pop and occasional 80s flourishes comes off like a bonkers mix between boy band One Direction and alt-rockers Foals.
It's also true that no two songs sound the same on their over-hyped debut, which ranges from the skittery R&B pop hooks of Chocolate to the reggae tinges of Talk!; the echoey synth-led Heart Out and the fuzzed-out scuzz-rocker Sex. But their all-over-the-place attitude means The 1975 never really settle on a style they can call their own.
