The Pixies' Black Francis and his long-time mate and songwriter Reid Paley team up for an album that can be rambling, intense, and then uplifting - sometimes all within one song.
Opener Curse has Francis's uppity strum but with a dour and dissonant undercurrent, before the gruff, bluesy-voiced Paley takes over on drunken ditty On the Corner, and on Seal Francis sounds like yelping son of a preacher man Caleb Followill.
Basically, it's just 10 songs that two mates got together to record while one was in town playing shows with his "old band" - and the result is one for Francis' fans, and maybe even a few Pixies fans too.
