Laura Veirs' ninth album Warp and Weft opens with Sun Song, which starts as a warm acoustic ode to summer and builds to a soaring symphony of sound. It's the perfect starting point for what is arguably some of the best work yet from the Portland singer-songwriter, who gets some help from kd lang and Neko Case, as well as the legendary Tucker Martine on production. Veirs describes it as "deep, dark, suffering and intense, compassionate love". And it really is.
