Yes, it's a record by that actor chap Hugh Laurie. And no, it's not House music. It's southern fried blues music he's playing and in the words of the artist himself: "If you care about pedigree then you should try elsewhere." Laurie is a very good pianist. But he's no Dr John or New Orleans' music godfather Allen Toussaint (who helps out on the album). And vocally there are moments when Laurie sounds a little like House. But he knows he's no Ray Charles and simply loves this sort of music, which goes a long way to making this a solid album of New Orleans blues by way of Oxford.
