Libertines co-frontman Carl Barat said he'd had it with bands. So he put off his reunion with wild-boy Pete Doherty and co, and vented what was going on in his head in the recording studio. That was, if this album is anything to go by, a cliche love story set to pompous folk.

It's not trying to be the Libertines or his other former band, Dirty Pretty Things - it's more pleasant than invigorating. While it leans more towards songs with naff lyrics floating on mediocre piano melodies, some tracks, like Je Regrette Je Regrette (which is about as Parisian as the term French stick), Run With The Boys and She's Something have elements of the choruses that hooked people on his collaborative works.
