KEY POINTS:
Fly fishing may seem an odd topic for a film festival, but fans of the sport will likely be flocking to the Rialto Cinema in Newmarket tomorrow when the third annual Fly Fishing Film Festival kicks off.
"We have spared no expense in sourcing what we believe to be the best fly fishing films in the world today,' says event coordinator Nick Reygaert.
"DVDs are cool but nothing can compare to seeing something on the big screen with surround sound and a few hundred cheering fishermen."
This year's feature movie is The Search - Tahiti, an epic adventure in search of huge bonefish - some of the fastest fish in the sea. Reygaert was a member of the expedition team, who hitched rides on local freighter ships in order to get to French Polynesia's most remote atolls.
Other films include Fishizzle, a short movie about the trials and tribulations of being a fishing guide in Alaska, and selected scenes from the recently released Soulfish - which details the search for the world's largest trout, the taimen, in Mongolia.
The film festival is on tomorrow and Wednesday nights, with a two-hour show each evening showcasing five fly fishing movies.
Tickets are $25 and are available from gin-clear.com, Rod & Reel in Newmarket or at the door.
