After months of being unable to speak, the hitmaker has broken her silence about her ordeal, and revealed what was the most challenging aspect of her post-surgery recovery - she couldn't swear.
"[Not speaking] was really hard," Adele says in an interview with Anderson Cooper for US TV show 60 Minutes that will air in the US on Sunday. "I love talking."
She was ordered not to utter a word throughout the months of November and December, but the singer says she found a way to amuse herself.
"I had an application on my phone that you type the words into it and then it speaks," she says.
"But the great thing is I love to swear. Most of [the apps] you can't swear on, but I found this one app where you can swear, so I'm still really getting my point across."
British tabloid The Sun reported back in November that the songbird had opted to use the smartphone app while she was recovering.
"She's been using the speaking app to buy coffee at Starbucks and to order cabs," said a source.
"It is far easier to communicate using it rather than writing everything down on paper and showing people."
Adele also tells Cooper about the moment her voice just "went" while she was singing live on a French radio show.
"It was like someone put a curtain over my throat ... and I could feel it," she explains. "It felt like something popped in my throat."
"I had laser surgery," she tells Cooper. "[They] put lasers down your throat, cut off the polyp, and kind of laser your hemorrhage back together and fix it."
She also says she runs the risk of injuring her vocal cords through overuse.
"If I decide to go on a 200-date world tour, it would happen again," she says.
Adele will make her return to the stage at Sunday's Grammy Awards. She's been nominated for six awards, including Best Pop Vocal Album for 21 and Record of the Year.

'I am your biggest admirer ...'
Meanwhile, Karl Lagerfeld has apologised (sort of) after calling Adele "a little too fat" during an interview with a French newspaper.
The Chanel designer told Metro, "The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice."
The tactless fashion guru, who once famously said, "No one wants to see curvy women," now insists his comments were taken "out of context".
He told the Metro on Thursday: "I'd like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought.
"I actually prefer Adele, she is my favourite singer and I am a great admirer of her. I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance.
"Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can't wait for her next CD."
Adele has also hit back at Lagerfeld for his stinging comment.
"I've never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women and I'm very proud of that," she told People magazine, according to the Daily Mail.
"I'd lose weight if I was an actress and had to play a role where you're supposed to be 40 pounds lighter, but weight has nothing to do with my career. Even when I was signing [a contract], most of the industry knew if anyone ever dared say [lose weight] to me, they wouldn't be working with me."
