Adele shares hilarious birthday photos dressed as 'Nan'

Considering Adele's huge success, you'd be forgiven for thinking the singer was much older than she actually is.

The 29-year-old British singer recently finished the Australasian leg of her world tour where she broke numerous records and cemented her position as one of the best selling artists in history.

Adele's New Zealand shows became record-breaking after becoming the only musician to sell out three shows at Mt Smart Stadium.

Total sales for the shows totalled more than 130,000, 40,000 more than any other artist.

Perhaps it was all that record-breaking that made the singer feel much older than her actual age of 29 and Adele decided to channel that "old age" for her birthday.

Celebrating her 29th on May 5, Adele used Joannie 'Nan' Taylor from The Catherine Tate Show as her inspiration - embracing the character's iconic pink cardigan, wild hair and chained glasses.

Her ageing costume made the singer almost unrecognisable as she captioned the shot "Nearly 30! Thanks for the well wishes. See you soon x".

The Hello singer has garnered quite a solid reputation for her quality fancy dress.

For Halloween last year, Adele perfectly imitated Jim Carrey's character from The Mask.

The singer also channelled a different celebrity for her birthday in 2015.

Adele was famously good friends with fellow British singer George Michael before he died on Christmas last year and used his iconic look as inspiration for her 27th birthday.
