Adele and Tape Face are New Zealand's top trending videos for 2016

Adele and James Corden are the most dominant forces on the internet this year, with their Carpool Karaoke segment confirmed as the top trending video on YouTube this year.

The video, part of The Late Late Show's recurring segment, has over 135 million views to become the most watched video in New Zealand, and the world, for 2016.

Three more of the segments, featuring singers Sia, Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani, also made the Top 10 in New Zealand, proving that Corden is a dominant force in our country.

Local star Tape Face also features on the list, after he rose to international stardom as a contestant on America's Got Talent.

His celebrity status was confirmed by a cameo appearance on YouTube's annual Rewind video, which celebrates the year of memes and music. Tape Face, whose real name is Sam Wills, appears in the six-minute video alongside a host of YouTube celebrities. The video features references and call backs to the Olympics, the Pen-Pineapple song, Pokémon Go and Hodor from Game of Thrones.

The video features many of the YouTubers re-enacting Work from Home by Fifth Harmony, which was the most watched music video globally in 2016. It has acquired over 1.18 billion views over the past nine months, topping the charts in New Zealand.

The popular girl group came just ahead of Calvin Harris and Rihanna; their song This is What You Came For was the second biggest song globally and third in New Zealand behind Closer by The Chainsmokers
