On the eve of his debut feature film showing at the Sundance Film Festival local director Taika Waititi has been named as one of 10 directors to watch by Variety magazine.
Waititi's film, Eagle vs. Shark, about "two colourful misfits thrown into each other's orbit", was due to screen at the festival last night. In the past the Variety magazine list has included names such as Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel) and Alfonso Cuaron (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban/Children of Men).
Waititi's short film, Two Cars, One Night, was nominated for an Oscar in 2004.
