There's one in every class - the kid who takes his obsession with comic heroes to the next level. Kick-Ass, out today, based on a comic book by the same name, is about an unnoticed high school student called Dave Lizewski (played by British newbie Aaron Johnson) who decides to become a superhero. He links up with self-named Big-Daddy (Nicolas Cage), and his daughter Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz), who are working to bring down the local drug baron, Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong).
Date Night, also out today, follows a suburban couple, played by Tina Fey and Steve Carell, who try to spice up their routine date night with a visit to a trendy restaurant ... but it appears they chose to steal the wrong booking. An action makes the heart grow fonder kind of film.
TV
Get your history fix with two new drama series screening this week. Maori Television plays The Circuit, a mini-series based on the tireless circuit court judges who travelled thousands of kilometres into the remote communities of North Western Australia. And two weeks ahead of Anzac Day we get the big-budget much anticipated series The Pacific, directed by mega-trio Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman, who produced Band Of Brothers. This series follows on with the tales of World War II marines who fought the less glorified battles in the Pacific.
