MUSIC
The big act of the week is Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, playing at the Powerstation tomorrow night. The Californian bad boys have added a girl since they last played down under. The rest of the week might be a good opportunity to check out some of the local treats, considering next week we are hit with all the international acts playing sideshows to Splendour in the Grass. Kidz in Space play at AUT's Vesbar to mark the start of the new semester tonight. They are joined by Electric Wire Hustle Sound System, Homebrew and Benny Tones. On Saturday the Nairobi Trio play the final show of their national tour at the Mt Eden Methodist hall before heading to Europe.
TV
Talk about drama. TV One rolls out a feature about the sinister tale of Dr Colin Bouwer who slowly poisoned his wife, and TV3 has a dramatic re-enactment of baby Kahu's kidnapping in 2002. Meanwhile, Prime wraps up it's documentary on 50 years of television with the history of Maori broadcasting, and, fittingly, Maori Television's award-winning adaptation of Margaret Mahy's book, Kaitangata Twitch airs its final episode.
MOVIES
There are just a few more days to extend your knowledge with the film festival. This week's highlights include Kiwi film Predicament directed by Jason Stutter and starring a list of well known faces like Jemaine Clement, Heath Franklin (Chopper), Tim Finn and Rose McIver. I'm also looking forward to seeing the mix of stop-motion, 3D animation and black and white documentary at the quirky shorts screening at the Academy Cinema tonight. Elsewhere there's the dark action thriller Inception directed by Christopher Nolan of The Dark Knight fame, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Don't go with a sleepy mind.

Ballet shoes are swapped for ice skates and the stage becomes a rink in the latest Russian adaptation of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake on Ice at Aotea Centre until Saturday. By all accounts swans don't actually like ice, but the ice-skating performance best evokes the peaceful ethereal nature of the creatures.
A week of it
