As Shortland Street turns 25, New Zealand on Screen opens the archives to bring us 25 years of trivia.

As heartthrob doctor Johnny Marinovich, Stelios Yiakmis arrived in Ferndale as the husband of Ellen Crozier (Robyn Malcolm), left as the widower of Tiffany Warner (Alison James), and accumulated a large pile of broken hearts along the way.

Here he recalls turning to Michael Galvin for tips on surviving on the Street, and how a three-week contract became five extraordinary years of his life.
