As Shortland Street turns 25, New Zealand on Screen opens the archives to bring us 25 years of trivia.
Paul Gittins was a foundation Shortland Street cast member, playing original clinic CEO Michael McKenna. Appearing over a period of seven years, his character battled alcoholism, homophobia, a murder accusation and numerous stresses caused by daughter Rachel, before succumbing to a series of heart attacks.
Here Gittins speaks about "always getting it wrong", and how Ferndale's younger crowd taught him many life lessons.
