Prior to her departure last year, Angela Bloomfield had spent a remarkable 24 years on and off Shortland Street. In that time, her character Rachel McKenna grew from a troublesome schoolgirl, battling addiction and a string of tumultuous romances, to eventually become CEO of the hospital, before her demons began to reappear. During that time, Bloomfield also put in considerable hours behind the camera, as director of many of the show's episodes.
Here she heads back to 1993, remembering her terrifying first day on the Street, which saw her having to wear a towel in her debut scene, and quickly realising she had a lot to learn.
