New York City street cart vendors store their dogs in warm-water baths, giving rise to the affectionate moniker “dirty water dog”. The big apple’s dog is traditionally served with sauerkraut.
Ingredients
1 can | Sauerkraut, 410g |
1 cup | Beer |
1 | Bay leaf |
2 | Frankfurter sausages (Main) |
2 | Buns, sesame |
1 drizzle | Mustard, spicy |
1 drizzle | Tomato sauce, or tomato relish |
Directions
- To prepare the sauerkraut, drain sauerkraut from can and simmer it with the beer, bay leaf and some freshly ground black pepper till beer has evaporated. Season to taste.
- Simmer frankfurters until hot.
- Spread soft sesame buns with spicy mustard, add franks, hot sauerkraut.
- Top with tomato relish or ketchup.
