Pork with a Chinese marinade is the perfect ingredient to include in your New Lunar year celebrations, like in this sticky pork with vegetables.
Ingredients
500 g | Belly cut shoulder of pork, lean (Main) |
3 Tbsp | Light soy sauce |
1 Tbsp | Chinese five spice |
2 | Garlic cloves, crushed |
1 Tbsp | Fresh ginger, finely frated |
3 Tbsp | Honey |
2 Tbsp | Rice bran oil |
1 | Red pepper, thinly sliced |
1 cup | Peas |
2 cups | Spinach, finely sliced, or bok choy |
Directions
- Thinly slice the pork into strips. Combine the sesame oil, soy sauce, five-spice powder, root ginger, garlic and honey in a bowl. Add the pork and mix well. Marinate for at least 10 minutes.
- Heat half the rice bran oil in a wok on medium. Stir-fry the red pepper and peas for 1-2 minutes, until crisp-tender. Place aside.
- Drain the pork reserving the marinade. Stir-fry the pork in batches in the remaining oil until almost cooked. Add the marinade and stir for 2-3 minutes, until syrupy. Add the spinach or pak choy and the reserved vegetables. Stir-fry for 1 minute.
