The cardamom and coffee beans are essential flavours in this drink, the sweet floral flavour of the cardamom balances well with the bitterness of the coffee. I like making this in the afternoon or before I do afternoon exercise.
It’s a really light drink with a lovely coffee flavour which will give you a little pick-me-up but without the intensity of regular coffee (to put it in perspective a regular cup of coffee has around 70 coffee beans).
If you wanted to omit the coffee beans you could replace with a caffeine free alternative like dandy blend. If you are having this pre-workout you could add superfoods like maca or cordyceps for an extra boost.
Ingredients
1 cup | Almond milk, or other nut milk of your choice, such as coconut or hazelnut milk (Main) |
1 Tbsp | Cacao powder |
1 | Medjool date, pitted, use up to 2, depending on how sweet you like things |
2 | Cardamom pods |
6 | Coffee beans, use up to 8 |
1 cup | Ice |
Directions
- Place all ingredients in blender and blend until completely smooth so the coffee beans and cardamom have become fine enough to not detect. Serve immediately and enjoy (this drink doesn't sit well due to the high content of ice).
