These baked apples are really simple to make and taste just like an apple crumble. They look super-cute and go a beautiful shade of green. You can add anything you like to the stuffing: dried apricots, currents, orange zest. They are so versatile and a really comforting dish. We love to serve them with runny custard and pouring cream.
Ingredients
4 | Granny Smith apples (Main) |
100 g | Butter, softened |
75 g | Brown sugar |
½ cup | Walnuts, chopped |
½ tsp | Cinnamon |
½ tsp | Nutmeg |
Directions
- Preheat oven to 180C. Wash and dry the apples, then use a corer or a sharp knife to remove the core. Place side-by-side in a shallow baking dish.
- Mix together the butter, sugar, walnuts and spices. Spoon the mixture into the centre of the apples. Make sure to use lots of filling — it is fine if the apples are overflowing with the mixture.
- Bake apples for half an hour or until they are soft and the skin is wrinkled. Served with whipped cream.
