Matariki is coming up and I am still very eager to see it as an official opportunity for everyone to celebrate the Maori new year and have an excuse for festivities with special food. The following is my take on Kiwi favourites that take into account the New Zealand love of lamb, kumara, fish, pies and hokey pokey icecream. These recipes also celebrate that piece of cooking equipment we perhaps take for granted and of which New Zealand was an early adopter, the domestic oven.
Lamb and silverbeet pie with cucumber yoghurt
Kumara and smoked fish gratin
