Fresh this week
Peaches, nectarines, apricots and plums are at their sweet, juicy best. Head to your nearest New World to enjoy a bountiful crop of local stonefruit from the Hawkes Bay and Central Otago.
What to look for
“It’s best to keep your peaches at room temperature in the fruit bowl,” says New World Fresh Expert Brigit Corson. “If you have chilled them, let them come to room temperature before eating to get the best flavour, juiciness and texture.”
Try it in
Check out our grilled peach and prosciutto salad in this week's meal planner. Try bottling apricots for use throughout the year or they are easy to freeze – cut them in half and remove the stone, lay them out skin-side down on a tray and freeze then place in a sealed container. This will give you free-flow fruit that will keep well in the freezer for months.
Moving on:
We say goodbye to cherries this month so make the most of them, they are very good buying at New World supermarkets. They make the best snacks and are quite literally the cherry on top of many desserts and sweet treats – take a peek at the cherry recipe collection.
