Te Rehua by Escarpment - 2012
Larry McKenna strides the Kiwi pinot noir landscape with an enviable reputation. His Martinborough Escarpment Vineyard continues to showcase excellence. The single vineyard Te Rehua from his insight series is a personal favourite. From 21-year-old vines, this is classic New World pinot noir. Ripe fruit flavours and soft gentle tannins, black cherry and plum with hints of herb and earth.
Mahana Pinot Noir - 2012
This Upper Moutere Nelson producer is certified organic, fast establishing a reputation for fine wines. From glacial clay bound gravels comes excellent fruit, treated with kid gloves. Hand-harvested, finely selected grapes produce a wine with fine-grained tannins, highly aromatic and beautifully integrated flavours. Unfined, unfiltered and bottled by a gravity process. Very much a wine made by minimum intervention.
Mahi Marlborough Pinot Noir - 2012
Mahi's winemaking focus is to develop palate texture rather than put an emphasis on presenting upfront primary fruit. This wine is a fine example at a reasonable price and has complex savouriness, is delicate and with slightly more red than black fruit notes. Perfect with white meats and game.
