Wyndham adds to Ramada portfolio

Wyndham will manage the Ramada Suites Albany hotel on the North Shore.

International hospitality management chain Wyndham Hotel Group has taken over the management of a Northland property and struck a contract to manage a new Auckland hotel, and both places will be branded under the Ramada label.

Barry Robinson, South East Asia and Pacific Rim group president and managing director, said the business was taking over managing an existing 32-room property at Taipa in Doubtless Bay. That would become the Ramada Resort Reia Taipa, he said.

Wyndham will also manage a new 66-room property on Auckland's North Shore. That property will be branded Ramada Suites Albany, he said.

This follows Wyndham's announcement last year that it would manage a new $18.5 million Rotorua property due to open shortly and to be branded Ramada Lakeside Resort and Spa.

Robinson said the Taipa property was owned by Taipa Management which had undertaken a two-year refurbishment. The new Ramada will have deluxe and superior studios, suites and apartments which would open later this month, he said. The hotel on the beachfront is about 20 minutes from Kaitaia Airport, he said.

Levin Da Costa of Taipa Management said having the property branded a Ramada could attract business and leisure travellers from around the world.

Robinson said the Albany project was one of the first new North Shore hotels for some time.

Earlier this year, Ramada Suites Auckland Federal Street and Ramada Suites Christchurch City opened.

A new Ramada is also planned for Queenstown, Robinson said. That property is to be called Ramada Suites Queenstown Remarkables Park.

Wyndham said Ramada managed nearly 840 hotels around the world but the wider group has about 7760 properties with 672,000 rooms in 71 countries.

Its brands include Travelodge, Knights Inn, Dolce Hotels and Resorts and Days Inn.
