KEY POINTS:
New Zealand's creative industry has added another trophy to its already crowded mantel.
DDB New Zealand has topped bestadsontv.com's annual ranking of global advertising agencies, beating off some of the world's biggest advertising names, such as BBDO New York and Saatchi & Saatchi London.
It pipped another New Zealand agency, Colenso BBDO, for the top spot.
Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand was joint third with BBDO New York.
In its sixth year, the rankings rate agencies worldwide according to the quality of their creative work.
Agencies submit their work in one of five categories which are judged either weekly or monthly by leading international creatives. Every monthly or weekly category winner ad is showcased online, and the winning agency is awarded points, which are then tallied up to give the year's overall winner.
In 2008, DDB NZ had category wins for every major client in its portfolio, including NZ Lotteries, Cadbury, Tasman Insulation (Pink Batts), Sky TV and Volkswagen. The agency's deputy creative director Bridget Taylor was pleased.
"This win shows that DDB NZ has consistently performed, week in, week out, at a global level. It's fantastic to know that our work touches people across the world - it shows what hard work, determination and an amazing team can achieve."
