A small group of Kawerau pulp and paper union workers are unhappy with the deal reached between Norske Skog Tasman and Carter Holt Harvey over the sale of Norske Skog's kraft pulp manufacturing business.
Chief executive of the newly acquired business John Galbraith said yesterday that the operator service agreement between Norske Skog Tasman Ltd and Carter Holt Harvey would see NSTL continue to employ PPWU members at the pulp mill.
As a result of the operator service agreement, no PPWU members would be made redundant on the sale date of April 30, he said.
PPWU secretary Harold Appleton said today the union did not necessarily accept the structure proposed in the agreement as binding on his members.
Mr Appleton said the union would be looking at the agreement closely and calling a meeting in the next fortnight to view a range of options available.
He said he was reluctant to discuss any details until a meeting with union members was called and a decision reached from all members.
"We are not slaves to be sold as a commodity," he said.
The sale of the Norske Skog Tasman kraft pulp manufacturing business to Carter Holt Harvey for $311 million was announced yesterday subject to final ratification this week.
