JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) Construction of a monorail for the Indonesian capital has resumed after years of wrangling that left parts of the city dotted with unfinished concrete pillars.
Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo presided over the groundbreaking for the restart of the 15 trillion rupiah ($1.36 billion) project in a ceremony Wednesday in southern Jakarta.
He said no effort would be spared to ensure the 28 kilometer (17 miles) monorail is completed within three years.
It was the second major transport project to get underway in Jakarta this month.
Construction started last week for a 15.7 kilometer mass rapid transit line after delays of more than two decades.
