A woman has been jailed for 4-1/2 years for a million dollar fraud against her employer Fonterra.
Nikita Singh, a former accounts payable clerk, had pleaded guilty in Manukau District Court to seven fraud charges.
She was sentenced yesterday.
The Serious Fraud Office said she had accessed acomputer and using forged documents took $1,348,866 from dairy giant Fonterra.
The SFO investigation revealed she had secured $3,296,845 in loans to build up a substantial property portfolio through making false representations over her income.
She had also fraudulently obtained social security benefits of almost $100,000.
Singh has repaid $900,000 to Fonterra.
SFO director and chief executive Grant Liddell said the sentence "sends a clear message to those who engage in such dishonest practices will be treated firmly by the courts".
