KEY POINTS:
The Commerce Commission has received an application from A&R Whitcoulls Group Holdings Pty Limited (ARW) seeking clearance to acquire 100 per cent of the shares in Borders New Zealand Limited.
ARW, an Australian proprietary company registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, is owned by Pacific Equity Partners Pty Limited.
Its activities in New Zealand include the retail of books, magazines, stationery, cards and DVDs through its wholly-owned subsidiary Whitcoulls Holdings Limited.
Borders is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Borders Group Inc., which is listed on the New York stock exchange.
The Commerce Commission will determine whether an acquisition of Borders by Whitcoulls would substantially lessening competition in the market.
A public version of the application will shortly be available on the commission's website under Public Registers.
