Devonport software developer Wherescape is opening an office in London as a beachhead to attack the lucrative European market.
The company makes data warehouse software, and last year landed America's Wells Fargo bank as a customer.
Wherescape has developed a tool that allows companies to build systems quickly, assembling data from a wide variety of sources.
Company managing director Michael Whitehead said the UK office was a huge investment, but it was necessary if the company were to grow.
The office would have about four staff, and would focus on sales rather than consultancy.
Wherescape has signed Britain's Promscape as a business partner, and has inked a deal with an undisclosed customer.
The UK office follows the company's move into the US. It opened an office in Portland, Oregon, last year.
Wherescape now has more than 20 customers in New Zealand including Southern Cross Healthcare, Fonterra, Tip Top, the Health Ministry, Sky City and the Blood Service.
Whitehead said business was good but the company had to look overseas to grow.
