The Consumers' Institute is urging caution to those attending an internet marketing seminar in Christchurch today.
iNet Seminars is hosting a free lunch and 90 minute conference to show people how to create income through the internet.
However the Consumers' Institute says the business' parent company in the United States has run into trouble with authorities, and were charged under the Business Opportunity Fraud Act (USA) in 2002.
A series of seminars run by the company in Western Australia recently attracted a warning from the region's Department of Consumer Protection (see link below for the warning statement).
Chief Executive David Russell says people should also realise there's no such thing as a 'free lunch'.
He is asking people who are attending to think before they sign up to anything at the seminar.
