One of the United Nations' major trade bodies, the Codex Committee on Meat Hygiene, may wrap up its current work this month, well ahead of schedule, chairman Andrew McKenzie, says.
McKenzie heads the New Zealand Food Safety Authority.
"We have been able to get robust international agreement on important global meat trade issues well within the timeframe set," he said.
Codex was created in 1962 to develop food standards, guidelines and codes of practice to protect the health of consumers and ensure fair trade practices in the food trade.
