Commerce Minister Paul Swain has announced three new appointments to the Commerce Commission.
Wellington accountant Peter Taylor, formerly of Ernst & Young, has been appointed commissioner for five years. He was seconded to the Crown Company Monitoring and Advisory Unit as its chief executive between 1994 and 1996.
Auckland economist Donal Curtin has been appointed an associate member of the commission for three years. Mr Curtin, a former chief economist of the Bank of New Zealand, established consultancy Economics New Zealand in 1999.
Dr Donald Gilling, also appointed an associate member for three years, is a former professor of accounting and finance at Waikato University. He is managing director of Economic and Social Research Associates.
Mr Swain also announced three appointments to the Securities Commission - Cathy Quinn, a partner in law firm Rudd Watts and Stone; Colin Beyer, a partner in law firm Simpson Grierson and chairman of Tower, Summit Resources and Capital Properties; and Dr Rodger Spiller, managing director of Money Matters, investment advisers to the rich.
Dr Spiller is executive director of the NZ Business Council for Sustainable Development and the New Zealand Centre for Business Ethics.
