KEY POINTS:
National grid operator Transpower has signed a $20 million-plus 10-year deal for enhanced fibre services in the South Island from TelstraClear's Next IP Network.
TelstraClear completed its 950km South Island fibre ring in January, connecting all of the South Island's main cities and centres.
Transpower chief executive Patrick Strange said connecting to 19 sites in the South Island via the fibre ring would help Transpower build a consistent, resilient infrastructure.
"This will assist us greatly when connecting new equipment and assets to the national grid, and enhance our operating and monitoring processes," he said.
