Toyota New Zealand says it will recall all of its third-generation Prius cars, released last year, to improve brake pedal "feel".
Paul Carroll, general manager of after-sales for Toyota, said all 260 third-generation Prius owners in New Zealand will be contacted and asked to get in touch with their local Toyota dealer so updated software can be installed in their vehicle at no charge.
"While we have not received any negative comments from our New Zealand customers, we are aware that some customers in the US and Japan have reported a split-second delay in pedal response under slippery road conditions when the ABS system activated," Mr Carroll said.
The software upgrade will eliminate that delay and improve driving and takes less than an hour to install.
Affected Prius owners should receive a letter from Toyota in the next two days.
