Toyota New Zealand has issued a recall for 420 used import Voltz and Pronard models which were originally manufactured between December 2001 and May 2004.
These cars were originally the subject of a recall in 2013 for possible inadvertent deployment of airbags.
"Globally, Toyota has decided to change the original remedy after it was discovered that there was still potential for the original fault to occur," said Toyota New Zealand product general manager Spencer Morris.
The airbag control module will be replaced under the latest recall with customers being contacted later this year once parts are available.
Only selected imported vehicles are affected by the recall, and no instances have been reported in New Zealand.
