Top TVNZ executive jumps ship to MediaWorks

Top TVNZ executive Paul Maher has jumped ship to a "dream job'' at rival broadcaster MediaWorks, which owns TV3 and Four.

Maher, who has been TVNZ's sales and marketing director since 2010, will lead the television side of MediaWorks' business as television chief executive.

He will also assume the responsibilities of MediaWorks' outgoing television sales director.

Maher said he was passionate about television, having worked as a seller and buyer for more than 20 years.

"MediaWorks TV has great brands, a fantastic schedule, and added to that, people who are really passionate about delivering winning content solutions to New Zealanders and New Zealand brands,'' he said.

"It's a dream job.''

MediaWorks group managing director Sussan Turner said Maher was one of the most experienced executives in the New Zealand television industry.

"Paul's drive and astute knowledge of this marketplace, together with his passion for television, make him the perfect chief executive for MediaWorks TV,'' she said.

"His appointment further strengthens our top-notch television executive team, and I welcome him to the MediaWorks family.''

Maher previously had an international career with Starcom MediaVest Group, with roles including North Asia chief executive and Starcom Hong Kong managing director.

He co-founded Starcom NZ, and is a former TVNZ agency sales general manager.
