Event ticketing company Ticketek is entering the market research business, offering customers rewards dollars for taking part in surveys.
It has launched Nine Rewards, an online panel made up of consumers who have bought tickets from it or who subscribe to magazines published by its partner company, ACP. Anyone can join, however.
Nine Rewards already operates in Australia, where it has a consumer panel of 1.1 million.
Geoff Jones, CEO of parent company Nine Events, said people could earn anything from 80c to $5 for each survey, depending on its length and complexity.
The funds were added to the member's account and could be redeemed for event tickets, magazines, and, shortly, downloads through Universal Music.
Other rewards would be added as more partners joined the scheme, he said.
Typically, a member could be asked to fill out a survey about 20 times a year, and they had the option to say no.
The surveys were online but sometimes consumers would be asked to join focus groups and earn rewards for that.
Nine Rewards had amassed a database of about 3000 in New Zealand. It hoped to build that to 200,000, Jones said.
