STOCKHOLM (AP) TeliaSonera says it has fired its chief financial officer and three other executives for their role in questionable deals in Central Asia.
The Nordic telecommunications company says the decision is based on the findings by an independent audit into the deals, which this year came under fire for allegations of bribery and money laundering, particularly in Uzbekistan.
TeliaSonera said in a statement Friday that the board had lost trust in the four employees and that the review into the company's transactions and agreements will continue.
In February, TeliaSonera's CEO resigned after an audit found the company had failed to conduct a proper background check on a partner Uzbek firm believed to be connected with the family of Islam Karimov, the Central Asian country's autocratic ruler.
