A tax agent who allegedly filed 250 false tax returns will face a raft of criminal charges in court next month.
Michael Robert McDonald, 40, was a registered tax agent for more than a decade before the extensive list of charges - including 13 counts of dishonestly using a document, four charges of theft by a person in a special relationship and one charge of false accounting - came to light.
It is alleged McDonald filed about 250 false tax returns in order to receive money from the IRD, as well as failing to pay tax on behalf of his clients.
He appeared in Manukau District Court yesterday and was remanded on bail until December 11.
The Serious Fraud Office has been investigating the claims since May 2014.
