Sun reseller and systems integrator SolNet has laid off six sales staff, but managing director Mark Botherway says the company is expanding.
"We reviewed our pre-sales infrastructure and also looked at our total resource requirements. There is going to be significant growth in head-count in the area of delivery."
He said SolNet could hire up to 18 people over the next six months, to take total staff to more than 120.
"There will be some new sales positions in the area of business solution delivery and software development."
SolNet sells Sun hardware and Sun One technology to large firms and Government agencies, but it has also built up considerable strength in other third-party software and application development.
Botherway said there was room for expansion in areas such as data warehousing, enterprise information systems, content management and workflow tools.
"We already do a lot with the Sun One identity management and security product, application servers and web servers.
"There are areas outside that around systems management and data management where we have something different we can bring to the table."
SolNet lays off six as it prepares for growth spurt
