Annette Presley has been inducted into the Company of Women Hall of Fame.
Businesswoman and philanthropist Annette Presley braved a debilitating bout of the flu to attend her induction into the Company of Women Hall of Fame earlier this month.
The annual event was created to celebrate top businesswomen in New Zealand and has a strict criteria for being inducted - with her work in the telecommunications industry with CallPlus and her work in the community Presley clearly fits the bill. She was inducted along with reality TV queen Julie Christie and healthcare sector star Dr Lee Mathias.
New Zealand China Council Media Awards
There was a slightly awkward pause at last week's New Zealand China Council Media Awards, when the token gigantic cheque was noticeably absent.
The winner of the China Business Reporting category as well as the overall winner with a $10,000 trip to China was Business Herald journalist Christopher Adams. Unfortunately for the awards ceremony Adams was preoccupied, currently on holiday - in China. It seems he may soon be heading back after he returns to New Zealand next month. In a speech read out by Business Herald editor Liam Dann, Adams said he was extremely grateful for the award, if a little jet lagged from the flight.
Wine and beer flowed and Chinese nibbles were passed among the guests, which included Dame Jenny Shipley, Sir Don McKinnon, ANZ staff, media and members of the New Zealand China Council, but one of the main topics of conversation on the night was the recent publicity around Chinese house buyers in Auckland. Shipley referenced the topic during her speech saying it was a policy not people issue.
Arthur Loo, partner at Loo and Koo law firm, jokingly offered a free name change by deed poll to any new Chinese house buyers in Auckland.
(NBR) has ruffled a few feathers with its latest Rich List.
A surprising number of those on the list said they disliked being on it.
Even one of those put up by NBR's own public relations team - Hamish Edgar - said he would rather not be on it and Annette Presley says she ducks for cover when researchers come calling.
TIN Talk
One of the more interesting business talks of late was given by Canadian angel investor Salim Ismael, who broke down the buzzword of disruption in just over an hour.
The Canadian angel investor and founder and global ambassador for Singularity University, flew in to New Zealand for a speedy visit, delivering his presentation to the select group of business leaders at members-only club Seafarers in Britomart.
The drinks and canapes event was organised by Technology Investment Network.
The interest in Ismael and the event overall is sure to see a similar crowd turn up to their next TIN Talk on September 9.
