Business technology company Zintel is eyeing a mobile deal with one of the three network operators as it seeks to develop its business telecommunications offer.
Zintel chairman Nick Gordon confirmed the company would be looking to sign a mobile virtual network operator deal - essentially wholesale access - with either Vodafone, Telecom or new entrant 2degrees.
Black+White, CallPlus, Compass and M2 have agreements to piggy-back on Vodafone's network, with TelstraClear set to connect to Vodafone.
TelstraClear and small business specialists Digital Island offer mobile services using Telecom's old CDMA network.
Telecom will not be offering wholesale access to its new XT network until "Zintel has a cellular mobile agreement in Australia where the wholesale market is more mature and we do anticipate New Zealand following suit in this area.
"An MVNO would fit in very well with our current business requirements in New Zealand," said Gordon.
The NZAX-listed company, which sells telecommunications services and technology in the business market, recently purchased Cogent for $1.9 million.
