This week's theme on exporting is obviously a big one to cover so we are spreading it over two weeks. We have looked at a variety of ways SMEs are choosing to export in three case studies including the companies PQ Blackwell, FootScience International and BurgerFuel.
Thanks NZTE for those contacts. There is something very striking about seeing BurgerFuel's Josef Roberts photographed with two Middle Eastern businessmen.
Henry Studholme, of Prime Foods NZ, meanwhile, took matters into his own hands two years ago setting up a joint venture plant in the Philippines and exports from there. It is still mainly NZ salmon but having his main distribution base in the Philippines is giving him a lot more options.
And lastly, Paul Grey of World Wide Access gives some ideas on how to use technology to help your export aspirations. And he is helping some big names such as Ecoya in the States. Thanks, Henri Eliot, CEO from Board Dynamics, for introducing me to Paul Grey.
Next week, we will continue to discuss the whys and wherefores of exporting. Let us know what information would be of interest to you and we will search out the experts who can help. We might look in more depth at currency hedging which would be relevant in the current roller coast environment. Let us know where you need help.
