Managers blamed the economic downturn saying 90 per cent of their product went overseas and sales dropped by a third last year. The manufacturing plant is still operating with the remaining 89 staff employed while receivers try to find a buyer for the business as a going concern.
Tritec was founded by the managers of the former Kenson Industries in Wainuiomata, when that company went into liquidation in 1998.
Union members at Lower Hutt manufacturer Tritec picketed the premises last year after the company said it would not negotiate a redundancy deal with its workers.
