Kate Ross, director of Kinetic Recruitment, says the industry is looking good - for both employers and employees looking for work.
We're two months into the third quarter of the year, winter is coming to an end and I am thrilled to report that business is still strong and consistent - the trend continues.
As well as having plenty of work on, we are being kept on our toes with a number of interesting, diverse and stimulating roles coming through from a number of our clients.
Luckily for all of us and for employers, there seems to be an increase in the number of high caliber candidates available looking for new opportunities and challenges.
It's a refreshing change and extremely satisfying to be able to offer some really great roles to people who will maximize them and grow and develop well within them. Candidates also seem to have a new, fresh enthusiasm for work at the moment, being less particular and more keen to take on all kinds of work; temporary, permanent and contract.
Clients have started to move quickly to secure staff and our average placement time has shortened again.
It's still hard to say which areas of industry are recruiting most strongly; generally we are seeing work coming in from a wide range of sectors and none are noticeable in their absence. It is fairly obvious that some companies are doing better than others and this, as you would expect, is usually consistent with their ability to be pro-active, progressive and well managed.
Professional services are reporting an emerging trend of salary increases for both existing and newly recruited positions. Competition being what it is, the right type of person for this environment can command that extra bit in their pay cheque, and rightly so.
We are finding clients and candidate alike generally have a very positive outlook for the rest of the year. People in business are slowly losing the feeling of having to keep purse strings tied and are starting to spend, but wisely. When it comes to recruitment, the emphasis is on getting it right first time to avoid costly mistakes.
Companies have not reverted back to the excessive spending days of old - we have all learned our lesson there.
Going into spring and heading into the Christmas months I am predicting a strong finish to the year. We will see more of the same, businesses recruiting and people wanting to move before Christmas to ensure a change in the New Year.
Spring has sprung.
