The screen industry generated gross revenue of more than $2.6 billion last year, similar to the horticulture, and forestry and logging sectors, Statistics New Zealand said.
Production and post-production work was the greatest contributor in the 2005 financial year, earning $1.3 billion, followed by television broadcasting at $1 billion.
The Auckland and Wellington regions were the business base for 81 per cent of all screen business.
