KEY POINTS:
Fishing company Sanford has bought a 13 per cent stake in the Bluff oyster fishery through acquiring the fishing assets of the Southland-based Jones Group.
Other assets in the deal include about 500 tonnes of inshore species such as blue cod, school shark, monkfish and crayfish, and 500 tonnes of deepwater species.
Sanford managing director Eric Barratt said the deal would allow his company's Southland fishing and aquaculture operations to become more significant.
Jones Group director Warren Conway said several parties had bid for the assets, and his company was pleased they would be retained within a Southland operation.
