Nick Leeson, the man most closely associated with the collapse of Barings Bank in 1995, will take up a position with a Republic of Ireland soccer club next week.
Galway United Football Club have appointed Leeson as the club's new Commercial Manager.
Nick Leeson has lived in Galway with his wife and family for the past two and a half years.
In 1995 he gained worldwide notoriety for bringing down the famous British banking institution, Barings, after incuring $1.8 billion dollars worth of losses. Leeson was the bank's head trader in Singapore.
"I am really looking forward to the challenge", said Leeson.
"I am a very keen football fan and am looking forward to working with Galway United.
"It is inevitable I will always be associated with Barings Bank but after everything which has happened, I have moved on and I hope other people have as well."
